Chapters 1,2,3,4

Slightly unconventional way of doing this portfolio, but I figure it can be beneficial in several ways.
1. No wasted paper
2. Easy access
3. More motivated to actually get this assignment done.

LOOK AT THIS!

Gustave Courbet Self Portrait (the desperate man) painted in 1843 in France. The piece is currently in a private collection. The self portrait is one of a series of self portraits, each illustrating an expression or mood of the artist. This one is a man being driven to the edge of sanity. I like it cause I know what he means, or at least pretend to know what he means. He was a raw personality and a genuine artist with a lot of arrogance. I like that about some artists. I think thats what gets art moving some times. Strong personalities and bold characters.

Francisco Goya Saturn Devouring His Son. painted on the walls of Goya's home between the years 1819-1823. The painting was transfered from Goya's home in Madrid to canvas and now resides in the Museo del Prado in Madrid.
I mean Just look at it!
Saturn ate each of his children when they were born because he feared they would over throw him. That is just insane. I guess I don't really like it for any other reason other than that fact that Goya decided to paint several black paintings like this on his walls in his house because he liked those stories. Sick guy. Plus the raw style that he painted this in was impressive all its own. kudos Goya.
kind of reminds me of stuff like this.

Medieval Boogie man?
Saturn was just gangster, I would have expected the same from Godzilla. Chump.

More art...

Jan Van Eyck Ghent alter piece. 1432 in Belgium. It is a multi panel polyptych. The craftsmanship in this piece is insane. The tiny details and carefully painted figures add to its intensity. The three central figures depict the Virgin Mary on the left and John the Baptist on the right. The central figure has caused some debate on whether it is Jesus or God or if it is all three figures of the God head shown as one central being. Either way he looks kind of like this guy

give thanks and praise.

Just wanted to add one more for the sake of it
this one is called The Meeting by Gustave Courbet. Painted in 1854 and is located in MuseƩ Fabre. The painting depicts Gustave Courbet on his way out of france after his self exile to switzerland. I liked the beard. Other beards that inspire me

Enjoi.
